The Environment

Pollution into oyster farming waters can be subject to environmental regulation.  Tasmania’s Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 and Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 allow local government and the Environment Protection Agency to:

  • authorise or ban an activity which may cause environmental harm,
  • require notification of the release of a pollutant, and
  • place requirements on certain activities, audit these requirements, and take action in response to non-compliance.
