POMS Question & Answer Fact Sheets Now Available

Most growers would have heard about POMS (Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome) and the associated virus (OsHV-1 μVar) [PDF 1.1 MB] that has been so destructive to oysters in Europe, New Zealand and recently in New South Wales. However until recently there has been very little information sent out to growers on the subject.

Cairns 2011 – Final Report 'OsHV-1 μVar International Workshop'

The workshop took place on 9-10 July 2011 in Cairns, Queensland, Australia – and followed the First Australasian Scientific Conference on Aquatic Animal Health held during the preceding week. The workshop focused its interest on the detection and identification of the Ostreid herpesvirus-1 microvariant (OsHV-1 μVar) in the presence of high mortalities amongst Pacific oyster (C. Gigas) populations, whether farmed or wild.

The 4th International Oyster Symposium (IOS4)

We are pleased to announce that the 4th International Oyster Symposium will be held in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia in September 2011. IOS4 is being organised jointly by Oysters Tasmania, the World Oyster Society and NSW Industry and Investment.

So How Good a Farmer Are You?

Oyster growers across Tasmania are invited to participate in a project aimed specifically at identifying how you rank against your oyster growing peers.

The Australian Benchmarking Program Round 2 will commence in November 2010 and is seeking 40 new growers (in addition to the existing 32 growers from Round 1) to become project participants. Being a participant in Round 2 is free as the project is funded by the Seafood CRC and your levies via the Oyster Consortium.
